Veganuary is a non-profit organization founded in the UK in 2014 that encourages people worldwide to try vegan for January and beyond.

Since then, more than 1.5 million people have taken the 31-day plant-based pledge to help the planet, reduce animal suffering, and to benefit people.

Here at Bluehouse we highly value a vegan lifestyle. That’s why many of our products have a vegan and cruelty-free label. And it’s also why each year we celebrate Vegan November.

And we’re not talking just about food choices. We’re considering other vegan options as well, such as skincare, hair care and accessories, among others.

Start with why: Why choose vegan options?

So why start the year with this pledge? Why have a vegan month?

It’s crucial to change your mindset before you begin to adopt new habits. And the best way to do that is by informing yourself. So here’s a summary of the 3 top reasons to start adopting a vegan lifestyle:

For the animals: all sentient creatures have a right to life and freedom. By going vegan you can take a stand against animal cruelty and animal exploitation, demonstrating true compassion for all animals. According to PETA, every vegan saves nearly 200 animals per year.

For the planet: The vast amount of grain feed required for meat production contributes to deforestation, land degradation, water scarcity, habitat loss and species extinction. A plant-based diet requires only one third of the land needed to support a meat and dairy diet. Plus, livestock farming releases greenhouse gasses such as methane, CO2, and nitrous oxide.

For your health: According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, vegans are less likely to develop heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure than meat-eaters are. Furthermore, going vegan is a great opportunity to learn more about nutrition and cooking, and to incorporate beneficial foods to your life like whole grains, fruit, nuts, seeds and vegetables.
